Running & Yoga
I’m running again! I just got back into a steady routine because in October I’ll be running into and out of the Grand Canyon. Yay!? Josh has planned a 20ish mile trail for us down the South Kaibob trail into the canyon then back up the Bright Angel trail for those of you familiar with this situation. I need to be conditioned, ‘cause I can’t call a mule to come lug me back up to the top (Josh’s words). I’m excited about the GC, but apprehensive about the training. Running helps me to release tension and calms me down and it makes me feel really good physically. I love how my legs feel after a run... alive, tingly and relaxed at the same time. I know how hard an intense training routine can be on my body. My yoga practice will be an invaluable part of this training.

Thank you Anna.
This is Anna. She was in my chair yoga class at Friendship Center this past Tuesday. She recently had a stroke and she has a condition called Aphasia, a language/communication disorder. The administrator at Friendship Center mentioned that Anna was having a particularly hard day and was in a terrible mood. She convinced Anna to join us for yoga.

Using Walls to Build Bridges
I am happy to share with you the newest non-profit organization I am promoting and working for, The Dharma Project, founded by Rutu Chaudhari, my teacher! Rutu is incredibly supportive of my yoga teaching dream and I am so happy she wants me to be a part of this organization. Yoga and non-profit work, kind of perfect! The Dharma Project provides yoga to public servants and the communities they serve.

Finding My Softer Side
I wanted to take the current 500 hour Purna yoga teacher training, but the time commitment was just not a possibility for me this go round. Luckily though, in the middle of the 500 hour training, Alive & Shine Center opens up Savitri’s Heartfull Meditation workshop to all. So here I am, out in Washington to attend the 12 hour (over two days) meditation workshop. I’ve been practicing Heartfull meditation for as long as I’ve studied Purna Yoga, but in 2013 started practicing on my own regularly. It’s an active meditation practice which aligns your mind and your body with your heart chakra. And let me just tell you about the benefits!

Yoga is SO MUCH MORE than Asana...
I want to give photo credit to my talented friend Brian Thorpe for capturing my most recent pics in Grant Park. One thing they don’t tell you in the beginning of yoga teacher training is “You know, it’s going to take more than just showing up to teach class. You’re going to have to take pictures of yourself doing yoga and post them publicly.”

Your Yoga Roadie
Hello friends!
As you know, in 2015 I finished my 200 hour training in Purna Yoga. The physical yoga I teach is alignment based yoga, which focuses on precision and detail, and utilizes props where necessary. My practice has become so physically and mentally therapeutic and I am ready to share what I’ve learned. That said, I am starting a mobile yoga business - because, why not!
