Yoga is SO MUCH MORE than Asana...
I want to give photo credit to my talented friend Brian Thorpe for capturing my most recent pics in Grant Park. One thing they don’t tell you in the beginning of yoga teacher training is “You know, it’s going to take more than just showing up to teach class. You’re going to have to take pictures of yourself doing yoga and post them publicly.”
Well darn, because I have an aversion to taking and seeing pictures of myself, I think most people can relate. I envy those who do not relate to this, you are blessed. When I told Rutu about this, she said something like, “Well, you need to keep doing it and explore what’s going on internally.”
Awesome.
So, now I’m working on discovering the part of me which appreciates my physical appearance as it is in its present state. I know that part of me exists; I just need to shed a complicated history of self image issues. I’ve added it to the long list of areas I meditate upon.
I’m sharing this because the yoga I practice and teach is so much MORE than physical asana. It’s a process of transforming negative tendencies into beautiful habits and discovering the best parts of myself. That’s exciting!
Love,
Ashley :)
P.S. – I have nicknamed my Monday night class Monday Night Delight. See you in class on Mondays at 6:45-7:45pm.
